Wash the apples in a little washing-up liquid to make sure the skin is not only clean but also free of wax that would stop the chocolate from sticking to it. Make sure you rinse all the liquid off with water. Push the lollipop sticks into the end of the apples and refrigerate them until they are cold.

Break the chocolate into pieces. The easiest way to do this is to bang the packet on the edge of the work surface, before you open it. Put the chocolate pieces in a mixing bowl.

Put the bowl in the microwave oven, set to defrost, and defrost for 2 minutes or until the chocolate has melted. If you don’t have a microwave oven, heat about 6cm/2in water in a large saucepan until it’s steaming, then put the mixing bowl on top to melt the chocolate.

Now take your apples and dip them in the chocolate. You might need to use a spoon to make sure the apples are completely covered.

Then roll them into some chopped nuts so they stick to the chocolate. When they are completely covered, refrigerate them until chocolate has set hard.
